Elephants, lions, baboons, and other fauna of
the African wilds abound on these pages, and we have a Zulu impi and the
resulting carnage described with the author's usual vivid power of
narration. Our old friend, Allan Quatermain, figures as the hero
throughout, and the most substantial part of the volume is occupied with
the story of his wooing, and the brief episode of his married life. The
romance, however, is subsidiary to the sauce piquante of livelier
incidents.
